چکیده

This study evaluates and quantifies fracture roughness effects on proppant particle settling in fractures utilizing coupled, resolved computational fluid dynamics (i.e., simulation of carrier behavior) the discrete element method behavior). work focuses specifically “slickwater” based slurries. Rough geometries are generated using a spectral-based algorithm with surficial varied by adjusting fractal dimension root-mean-square asperity heights descriptive parameters. also considers volumetric concentration influence from flowing conditions settling. Results indicate that attenuation quiescent rates is more pronounced rough as aperture narrows. The degree slurry corresponds to height values. A formulation describe average rate quiescently slurries proposed evaluated. Fracture causes erratic velocities slurries, some cases having upward velocity, at narrow apertures or below two times size for condtions considered this work. onset behavior dependent roughness, occurring narrower relative smoother compared rougher fractures. Preferential flow pathways formed apertures, noted cause these behaviors. overall findings provide greater understanding rock fractures, aiding design process enhancement projects.

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Roughness of fracture surfaces

We study the fracture surface of three dimensional samples through a model for quasi-static fractures known as Born Model. In particular, we consider the roughness of this fracture surface. We find for the roughness exponent a value ζ = 0.5 expected for “small length scales” in microfracturing experiments. Since this corresponds to a slow evolution for the fracture, our simulations confirm that...

New Insight on Deformation of Walnut/Ceramic Proppant Pack under Closure Stress in Hydraulic Fracture: Numerical Investigation

This study is an attempt to investigate the mechanical behavior of proppant packs deforming under compression loading. A generalized confined compression test (CCT) was simulated in the present study to investigate the deformation of walnut/ceramic proppants against compression. In this way, the CCT was simulated using ABAQUS explicit code. Unlike ordinary CCT, we obtained permeability of compr...

Effects of Pr6O11 Addition on the Acid Resistance of Ceramic Proppant

This paper investigated the effect of Pr₆O11 addition on the acid resistance of ceramic proppant. Acid resistance of proppants can be improved by introducing Pr₆O11 into the Al₂O₃-CaO-MgO-SiO₂ (ACMS) system. To illustrate and explain the mechanism of acid resistance, the samples were characterized by different techniques, using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SE...
